Support and tips for those trying to lose weight.

Name: chrissy
Age: 23
Starting Weight: between 170 and 180. faaaaat.
Goal Weight: 140. but really i care more about being more physically fit. you know what i mean?
Problem Area(s): arms and belly. but i'd like to lose weight all over.
Medical/health problems: i have some lung problems, but nothing too major.
My unhealthy habit(s) is/are: not being physically active enough, beer.
I would describe my eating habits as: mostly very healthy/balanced. my only pratfall is carbs. i eat/drink too many of them.
My favorite physical activity is: yoga, climbing things, long exploratory walks, ice skating, extreme sledding, swimming, drinking real fast.
This is what I am looking for in this community: an atmosphere that will keep me motivated to stick w/an exercise plan.

Welcome to wanna_washboard, the second best LJ community you'd ever want to be in. Or something like that.

I am your friendly and currently pleasantly plump mod, Laura. As you know, this is about losing weight and getting support from your peers. Even if you don't necessarily need to lose weight (ahem, Derek), it's for those who want to maintain your bod and keep healthy and help others who share the same views as well.

I'd like everyone to post about their goals. What are you looking to get out of this community? Health and eating tips, exercise tips, peers to go out with to the gym, ect.... How much weight do you want to lose? What are your problem areas? Why did you decide to join this community? How did you get to this point with your body? What seems to be the hardest thing to you about dieting, exercising and keeping fit?

I don't want anyone to get embarrassed. AT ALL. It's not about that. If you're more open about your health and your body, you'll become more comfortable with yourself. And let me tell you, it's a hell of a lot easier to go to the gym or go out to jog when you're comfortable about yourself instead of thinking "omg I wonder if I'm jiggling? Is anyone staring?". The point is you're making the effort. Screw everyone else!
